Oral History as a Method for Studying Soviet Era
This book raises questions of how to create a good source of Soviet oral history, how to prepare it for the archive, and how to analyse it. The publication discusses the essence, assumptions and validity of the oral history method, reviews the discussions of what is a good oral history interview, considers the challenges of this method faced by the researchers of the Soviet era, and the strategies for overcoming those challenges. It also introduces issues of archiving oral history sources. Finally, the last part of the publication is dedicated to ethical issues: it introduces the fundamental principles of ethical research and discusses what it means to apply them consistently throughout the research process.
